The Cedar Creek Café is working to reduce its environmental impact and to protect the splendid wilderness of the Slocan Valley. Our water is preheated using solar thermal energy (an Enerworks system from Skyfire Energy), we use recycled paper and degradable product packaging, organic ingredients from local producers are emphasized in our menu and we are even known to deliver catering orders by bike!
To limit fossil fuel consumption, we concentrate our supply runs and use a switchover.ca waste oil fuel system in our errand truck which enables us to use our waste non-gmo fryer oil as vehicle fuel. This makes our transportation petrochemical-free for most of the year. As appliances fail beyond repair, we are replacing them with Energy Star rated models.
Finally, we donate a portion of our profits to local environmental protection organizations, such as the Winlaw Watershed Committee.
